Understanding Laura

I am a crunchy oddball with too many ideas and too little time. Do you get me now?

Words, Words, Words

It's been a while since I counted Kellie's words. She'll be 17 months in about a week. Counting names, Kellie knows and uses 100 words. She understands many more, but these are the ones she uses in conversation. This is really more for my benefit than that of the old worldwide web. :) I know I won't remember this is a month or two, and it's fun to have this kind of stuff to look back on. I've included explanations of the names and for those words that she says in her own special way, I've included her interpretation.

Kitties, Llamas, and Airplanes

February was the month of the kitty.

March was the month of the llama.

April is the month of the airplane!

Kellie has found a new favorite thing each month.
She's now noticing the airplanes that fly overhead.
She signs airplane and says "vroom!"

We went to the Anchorage Aviation musuem today and she had a blast!

Parachute Buckle

Our diaper bag was getting ridiculously full.
I was knocking people over in the stores!
Okay...not over. But I sure did bump a lot of people!
So, we've simplified.
Now we have a heavy-duty bag in the car with
the non-essentials but nice-to-haves.
I carry a small train case in with
three diapers, a change of clothes, and a bib.

And Kellie will be carrying her toys in her cute new backpack.

Because she's just a tiny thing, I added a parachute buckle
to help keep the straps on her wee shoulders.

I was going to use a regular non-reflective buckle, but we live in Alaska.
She'll have all winter to use that shiny little baby protector.

JoAnn's dollar bins got the best of me and now we have an assortment
of non-essentials but nice-to-haves.

Well, maybe the cat shaped castanets are an essential.
And I don't think my life would be the same
without the small zippered pouch
for holding binkies.

What? Are you saying I didn't need those?

A First Time For Everything

Finally! I did it.

I made something that fit Kellie on the first try without alterations!

This is a wool cover with cotton embroidered flowers.
Made from two sweaters, it's a teensy bit bulky.
But I'm so happy it fits!

Now I'm off to add a buckle to her new backpack.
Pictures to come.
