Appen Decto Hecko Me!
Thursday - I woke up to a SWOLLEN belly, looking more like I did when I was 5 months into pregnancy with Kellie.
Thursday night - I had excruciating pain that woke me up each hour as the safety on my heating pad would turn on and consequently turn off the comforting heat.
Friday morning - What? I looked more like I did at 7 months pregnant! And I couldn't walk while standing up straight nor could I pick up Kellie.
Terra drove me to the ER and took care of Kellie for the day (Thank you!! Thank you!!) while the ER docs tried their darndest to diagnose me without risking the baby's health and happiness.
Twenty four hours later, I'm one appendix lighter and several cups of clear liquid diet heavier.
Funny clear liquid diet story -
When it had been closer to 17 hours without ANY food, I politely told the tech taking my vitals,
"I'm not trying to be severe...but if I don't get some food soon, I will eat my own leg."
His eyes, having grown to the size of golfballs, blinked several times before he backed surreptitiously out of the room to tell the nurse what I'd said. The nurse came in with a denial of food until a doctor cleared me to eat. He offered me some Jello. As I cried into my Jello, I made a plan of action. I'd remain doped up so I could at least sleep through the gnawing hunger.
Three shots of Demarol later (That's six hours, by the way) the doc is in the house! After devouring the remaining 6 calories stuck to the sides of the cup of my sugar-free Jello, I sat sobbing when the next shifts' nurse asked, "Are you okay?"
I replied, snot-faced and swollen, "I'm just...sob...so...sob... HUNGRY!!! sob A hoo hoo hoo hooooo...."
Never fear! Nurse Kevin to the rescue. Not 30 minutes later, I'd devoured four tiny cups of peanut butter, two saltines, a bowl of raisin bran, a cup of orange juice, and a quarter of a banana. Turns out my eyes were bigger than my stomach.
With food in my belly and the tears gone from my face, I guess I looked well enough to have earned an early release. I was sent home 24 hours earlier than planned.
And now here I type, hunched over my incisions and my slightly fussy fetus.
Those kicks sure are getting stronger!
